Teeth Undergo A Lifetime Of Change
Your teeth go through many physical changes throughout your life.
Teeth are erupted and the outer layer is initially weak – strengthened by the natural fluoride ions in your saliva. Keeping your teeth healthy is important by brushing off debris, eating low acidic and low sugar content foods.
As we age, our teeth can have signs of aging such as recession or wear.
Recession can make our teeth look unappealing and long.
Wear can make our teeth look short and reduce the appearance of our smile.
Cavities can develop from many causes.
Cracks can develop in teeth.
Restoring Tooth Health
Restorations can help in fixing these problems in many ways.
Modern dentistry is focused on aesthetics and functions more than ever before. The idea previously was that silver fillings helped teeth functionally, by giving the teeth strength with metal.
What’s stronger than metal right?
In recent years, composite resin, hybrid glass ionomers and ceramics have come to the forefront of dentistry. It’s never been a better time to “get dental work”.
“Bonding” or use of composite materials can add shape and dimension to areas that have receded or lost length. I have addressed many teeth with chips and wear with bonding to the biting edge of the teeth that have lasted years and years.
Ceramic Tooth Restorations
My favorite way to address restorations is ceramics due to the precision that can be gotten with the technologies I use in the office.
Using digital scanning we get the measurements down to microns (!!), providing the strongest materials ever used in dentistry, the most exact measurements we’ve ever been able to deliver. Ceramics also allow us and the dental lab technicians to produce restorations that cannot be easily identified next to the natural tooth.
The most important factor to me as a clinician is providing the function back to the patient while they feel confidence in their smile that their dental work is camouflaged into their smile resting easy that they made the best choice restoring their smile with a consultation at Maybury Dental Spa in Northville.
